Five organizations will be receiving the volunteer’s friend badges

The Estonian Village Movement Kodukant is recognizing five organizations with the volunteer’s friend label, which have stood out as role models in involving volunteers in their work.

“Over the past six months, we have paid attention to supporting associations involving people who have settled in Estonia from abroad as volunteers. We decided to give the Friends of Volunteers badge to those who have set an example – for example, by clearly defining the expectations set for volunteers, writing and adhering to guidelines and agreements, creating favorable working conditions and development opportunities, ”said Eha Paas, Head of Volunteering.

The following are awarded the Volunteer’s Friend Label:

  • football club FC Flora
  • animal advocacy organization Loomus
  • animal shelter Pesaleidja
  • youth center VitaTiim
  • youth association Edukad Sillamäe Noored.

Volunteers among both foreigners and Estonians are welcome to join these associations.

“As one of Loomus’ values is professionalism, we are looking for good specialists in our team, such as IT people, designers, graphic designers, videographers and other people in their field, for whom low proficiency in Estonian is not a limitation. Therefore Loomus will always involve volunteers with animals and their welfare close to their hearts.” said Anu Tensing, a project manager at Loomus. 

Due to the special situation, Kodukant will present the badges to the associations at a festive recognition event in the autumn.

In order to better involve new immigrants and increase the capacity to involve volunteers, a new trilingual web portal Volunteer Gate was opened at the beginning of the year at www.vablikud.ee. Guidance materials and recommendations for involving volunteers and finding suitable volunteering activities have also been prepared.

The handing over of the volunteer friend badges and the renewal of the volunteer gate are financed from the European Social Fund and the state budget.
