“Closing the empowerment gap through citizenship education: How to address educationally disadvantaged groups”

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

How can citizenship education become a suitable tool for closing the empowerment gap? – This is the central question of this year´s NECE conference, which will be held from 17 – 19 November 2011 in Warsaw, Poland. Experts and activists in the field of citizenship education, youth and social workers, and NGO representatives from all over Europe will get together to present their projects and discuss new ideas.

Useful information: Conference fee only: € 25,- (110,00 PL)
Included are: Lunch and evening buffets as well as the coffee breaks and participation in the cultural evening programme with the Klezmerband “Transkapela” and DJ Kamil Babacz.
Students and guests for just one day: free admission.

Further activities and features on offer:
— On 17 November you can experience a “Geocaching”-tour through the Warsaw district “Praga”
— US political scientist Benjamin Barber as well as educational experts Andy Williamson and Barbara Malak-Minkiewicz from the UK and the Netherlands will provide keynote speeches and impulses at the conference opening
— At an open forum you will get the opportunity to exchange, encounter and get to know multipliers in the field of citizenship education in Europe
— In seven different workshops, theoretical and practical aspects of citizenship education for educationally disadvantaged groups will be presented and discussed
— In an outdoor workshop you will have the opportunity to explore the usefulness of urban games as a method of teaching democratic values
— On 19 November you can visit our networking panels on advocacy and lifelong learning strategies, the educational role of civil society organisations and get an insight in EU Funding Programmes
— Prominent French philosopher Jean-Marc Ferry is going to close the conference with a key lecture on “Perspectives of Equality and Civic Participation in a Global Society”
— Optional and at your own expense: we will provide you with the opportunity to join our guided city tour to explore culture, history and the sightseeing highlights of Warsaw
